Ebay looks set to spend large amounts of its cash on lawyers after loosing a case in France in which it was found guilty of profiting from the sale of conterfeit goods such as handbags and perfume, according to The Inquirer and others.
Ebay has been ordered to pay a wopping £31m in damages but it is to appeal as it believes it cannot be held responsible for such goods, depsite the fact that it profits from them.
It's a bit like the old chestnut of making ISPs responsible for content they carry, but in this case it's hard not to think that eBay is more culpable than ISPs which are not profiting directly from content.
