Not much on the mobile news front today so I have been looking into the growth of mobile recycling in the UK. I discovered Mtec, a firm that says it is planning to be the largest recycler of mobiles in the UK. Mtec, based in Rutland, runs a training course which teaches unlocking and repair skills.
On its site it provides some interesting factoids:
- Over 100 million mobile phones will be replaced this year alone
- 80% of mobile phone faults are caused by fluid ingress (water leaking in)
- 80% of phones are locked to a single network – they can be unlocked in seconds
- 95% of mobile phones will have restricted performance
- 75% of mobile phone repairs are basic and can be done in seconds
- There are over 200 million recyclable phones in the UK alone
