Doromobile targets oldsters

Doromobile_2

About time too.

Doromobile is a Newmarket-based firm with two phones specifically for the elderly. Simple big button keypads and large number displays are the order of the day. The Handle Easy (pictured) costs £99, but there is also the Handle Plus at £79 for phoning five preset numbers only. Both on pay as you go or free on contract with Vodafone.

It's easy to scoff at what is the last sector of society (apart from the under sevens) that lives on blissfully without using mobiles, but it is the complete lack of designing specifically for that audience that has made so many of them shun using mobiles. This is a nice attempt to meet that need but the phone looks too childish to attract huge interest. How about stylish phones for the elderly that are also child's play to use? That's the real challenge.

Its about time we had some mobile phones available that just make phone calls. If I want a camera I will buy one. There is a company I brought a phone off last month and it is just the job.
