Google phone - latest gossip

Google Be afraid, be very afraid.

Right now aGoogle insider could earn a tidy sum spilling the beans on the firm's plans for the mobile market. And it seems that someone in the know is getting bits of information out.

The latest news is that Google is not doing a phone as some suggest, but in fact going to do a mobile operating system to rival Windows Mobile.

This is the line being taken by the International Herald Tribune which yesterday stated that Google is "not creating a gadget to rival the iPhone, but rather creating software that will be an alternative to Windows Mobile from Microsoft." Apparently its due in 2008, will be open source, with handsets that will be funded by advertising.

Bring it on. No doubt as with the iPhone, the whole concept will be tested in the US before hitting Euro shores.
