Burger King, McDonald's go mobile

Burger_king Do you want games with that?

Burger King, the place you presumably go if you hate McDonald's, is to start selling mobile games by virtue of a tie-up with games and content provider Mobliss.

Games which are designed with selling burgers in mind will be available through shortcodes, at first in the US only.

In a separate announcement McDonalds has announced that it is to roll-out 'free' Wi-Fi services at its 1,200 outlets across the UK. It says services will be provided by BT Openzone and The Cloud. It has not revealed what it means by free - most such services are usually time limited or insist that you view adverts before or during your use of the service.

Cynics believe McDonald's has been forced into action due to the success of Starbucks' offering of Wi-Fi through T-Mobile at most of its sites.

Verdict: It's a good sign for the mobile industry that it is joining the bandwagon to cross-sell through fast-food outlets. I just wish the BKs and the McDs of this world had the same level of imagination when it comes to the menu on offer.
