Orange launches Soundtribes.com
Orange is to open its Soundtribes web site within weeks, delegates at the Orange Partner Camp in Florida were told today.
The Myspace-like site aims to be a repository for unsigned and 'garage' bands. They can upload music which will then be available for download as MP3 and ringtones. Revenue will be shared between the band and Orange.
Speaking of the launch David Nahmani, Director, UGC & Communities said the site currently had a holding page but "within weeks" will be allowing the first bands to upload content. On digital rights managment he said: "There is no special DRM in place, just a filter to ensure we don't publish music that is copyright from major labels."
Nahmani said a full media launch is being planned.
